Inscribed ‘THE CASTLE BRESCIA.’, pencil, 230x160mm.

The Castle, situated on the Colle Cidneo, dominates the town. It was rebuilt by the Visconti Dukes of Milan in the fourteenth century with later additions. Mackintosh’s view appears to be from the direction of the town, a vista which is now obscured by trees.
