Inscribed ‘TOMB/MILAN CATH’, with other notes in pencil, 230x160mm.
The gothic wall tomb (1406) of Marco Carelli (d. 1394) attributed to Filippino degli Organi (fl. 1400-1450) and Jacopino da Tradate (fl. 1401-1440), stands in the south aisle. Marco Carelli financed much of the work carried out in the Cathedral in the late fourteenth and early fifteenth centuries. Filippino had been appointed as the Cathedral’s master mason in 1400. Jacopino was its major sculptor during the same period.
